Thought of the Week

From my grandma's birthday card to me :)

How To Live Well

May you keep getting to know yourself better-
and keep loving what you discover.

May you never stop learning, growing, dreaming.

May you travel to places you've always wanted to go-
and find yourself right at home wherever you are.

May you take up something new-
or something old that you put aside once upon a time.

May you take good care of yourself in every possible way-
and let those who love you take care of you now and then, too.

May you remember all the happiness you've known
and believe with all your that some of the best joys are yet to come.

May you live each day like you've only begun.

But most of all, may you never forget how deeply you are loved.

PS...

I know the fashion show video link isn't working for everyone! It's due to the fact its linked back to a facebook account, so the privacy blockers are getting in the way. But we are working to remedy this ASAP, no worries!

Where Have You Been All My Life?

I love love LOVE the Danskin sports bras Walmart has begun carrying! These are the most comfortable bras I have ever worn, and they are absolutely adorable. Definitely a great motivator to go to the gym! I love the bright colors they offer, but I do wish they had some more subdued offerings in some nude or white colors, so that I could wear them under some more everyday clothes as well. They are only $9-$12 each, so it is easy to stock up! Currently I am now on the lookout for some good Danskin swimwear as well, so keep checking back!

Obsession

I am in love with this top from Kid Dangerous. Takes me back to the good ol' days and my elementary school crush on Zack Morris!

And A Good Time Was Had By All

My first of hopefully many press posts to come about FMDS's 2011 Fashion Show, which in case you didn't know because you aren't cool, happened last Friday night. This video of the final walk comes courtesy of Ann Scott, a fellow designer!

Birthday Wish

Sooo I have been shopping around for the past week or so for a new dressform, as I have outgrown my old one from my teeny high school days and I have bashed the shoulders more than a time or two. Here is one that I have found on Amazon and am very much hoping to find on my doorstep sometime the weekend of March 27th :) It is completely versatile whether you want to do skirts, pants, sleeves, or whatever, and I have found Dritz to be a great, reliable brand. Fingers crossed, especially as I have already started planning big things for next years fashion show at Tech!

Class Happenings

For my Fit, Pattern, and Drape Class, we had an assignment over the break to collect some abstract art images and create some inspired sketches. I found the online portfolio of Ione Citrin and fell in love. Here are a few of her works I chose, and sketches will come later!

Rainy Daysss

How do I deal with a rainy day in Charlotte? Well, I had already planned ahead by bringing down my machine and some bolts of fabric, and right now I am having fun seeing how much use and looks I can get out of what I have. And to make things even better, today Lifetime Real Women is showing a Project Runway Season 8 marathon! Making it work indeed!

Ab Fab!

This is an awesome invention! I have tried to experiment before with adding batting and such to my dress form, for the purposes of fitting it to my proportions and also to fill in the gaps on the sides where I have adjusted it. This system is such a simple thing once you see it, but I think it would make a world of difference! For sure on my wish list!

A Picture Says a Thousand Words

But that wouldn't be enough to describe how much I love Neiman Marcus's ad campaign in Vogue's March issue! Their playground shoot is inspiring, jaw-dropping, inventive, and overall awesome! I love the plays on perspectives and their great use of garments for each play piece.
