Fuel For the Fire

So this is a really good site that I visit practically every day.  It is affiliated with Vogue, and they post everything from seasonal trend reports and fashion show coverage to news tidbits and shopping guides.  For the bulk of the benefits you don't even have to subscribe!

Rome Wasn't Built in a Day

But my dress was! Aside from the front draping I did a few weeks ago, I did all of this today.  I started at about 1:30pm and finished at 4:30ish am, minus a few hours for dinner and meetings.  So...anyone wanna clean up my workspace for me now?

A Closet Staple

Hey everyone!

Sorry for being so MIA these past couple of weeks! Life here has been CRAZY

So one of the things I'm working on right now is a project for Intro to the Fashion Industry, in which me and my group are researching a lot of things about J.Crew.  I can remember being 12 and my sister getting the catalogue every season.  Even then I would lust after their dresses.  To me they were always the epitome of summer and the LBD line is what legacies are made of.  LOVE

Words to Live By

I am loving Diesel's new "Be Stupid" ad campaign.  The approach is edgy and of course somewhat questionable, and at the same time really seems to capture the spirit of our generation. All in all, a great combo, and it has resulted in a lot of ads I want to print out to hang on my wall!
Diesel recently made a staff change from Wilbert Das, acting as to creative director, to journalist and magazine founder Bruno Collin, under the position of artistic director.  Well it looks like Bruno has brought good things so far!

See more of the ads at this link:

RIP

Alexander McQueen, we will miss you and your beautiful, creative mind and soul.  It may be hard for us to fathom why you chose to leave, but I hope that you have found peace.

Bring it On!

So maybe it's about the 11th straight day of snow and we have wind gusts of up to 80 mph outside my window...my sewing machine came today and I have 15 yards worth of draping muslin.  I am one ecstatic and giddy girl!!

*Love* These!

These are photos by fashion photog Camilla Akrans, and I cannot get over them!  Each one looks like there is a tragic romance behind it, and I would so love to jump in and find out!

J-WHATTTT?

So, I have heard recently that Jenni Farley, or "J-WOWW", from MTV's Jersey Shore is starting her own complete line of clubwear!  Yeah this should be interesting...what's next, a series of instructional self-defense videos?

Life's a Beach...in my head

I've spent the day dreaming that snow ISN'T canceling classes and activities left and right and that it is actually warm enough to wear an adorable Free People sundress...

Come dream with me at www.freepeople.com!
P.S.-check out their customer review system! I wish every retailer was this organized.

YAYYYY!!

I ordered my sewing machine today from Amazon!  It's a Brother XL-3750 and I cannot wait for it to get here.  I am praying that the snow doesn't slow things down too much, seeing as how right now my parking lot is one giant snowdrift and I hope me and the FedEx man don't keep missing each other like we normally do!
I have my first intended design sketched and ready to go!  Wish me luck!

Grammy Fashion Wrap-Up

So of course, we know that the Grammy Awards are not just a red-carpet event, they are also a wear-if-you-dare fashion and costume event.  And while some stars seem to have a "Bad Romance"...with fashion, and just cannot let one night go with trying to get everyones' eyes to pop out of their heads, many stars did stand out in a good way.
Rihanna was an attendee who tried (and succeeded) at donning a fashion-forward look. Some may have not adored her pre-Gala look (the first picture), but I loved it.  The short skirt kept it flirty, and the drama of the shoulder piece was fitting for the flair of the night.  Her red-carpet look is indisputable.  She looks regal as a queen, and I love the exaggerated hourglass figure.
Pink surprised me.  She always tries to come off as a tough cookie, but hey, she does clean up nice.  I'm glad that she can pull off this kind of layered look without looking like a scaly fish.
While more conservative, Beyonce still did not disappoint.  Punching up the demure shape with a fun texture and her inescapable va-va-voom, she was undeniably fierce.
And as she has proclaimed on SNL, Taylor Swift does love wearing her sparkly dresses.  And why shouldn't she?  She know how to rock them without looking like Vanna White.  She also chooses the most gorgeous colors to go with her skin tone.
In the end, my favorite look of the night had to be Carrie Underwood.  Her dress hit the perfect blend of the futuristic vibe that is striking a cord in fashion these days, and her simple sheer beauty.  The dress is almost like a Grecian goddess in year 3000 A.D.
